Vascular Lab - Peripheral Venous Duplex Ultrasound

Duplex ultrasound technology is a noninvasive procedure that is performed on the outside of the body and does not require the use of needles, catheters or dye. It has the ability to create images of the blood vessels and measure the flow of blood within them. The ultrasound technology has the ability to evaluate the veins for clots (superficial thrombophlebitis and DVT) and determine if the valves within the veins are working properly (venous insufficiency and varicose veins).

Symptoms for superficial thrombophlebitis might include localized pain, swelling, and redness in the area of a superficial vein.
Symptoms for deep vein thrombophlebitis (DVT)
might include pain, discoloration and persistent swelling.
Symptoms for venous insufficiency
might include heaviness and/or aching and pain (particularly after standing), burning and itching sensations, swelling
and alteration in physical appearance.
