VNUS Closure® and Endolaser are used for the treatment of an incompetent saphenous vein. The saphenous vein is responsible for feeding some surface varicose veins that lead to the large bulging veins that you see. Both procedures are performed under local anesthesia and are very similar in nature. The VNUS Closure uses a radio frequency catheter whereas the Endo Laser uses a laser catheter. In either case the wire catheter is inserted into the vein and by by delivering heat either by radio frequency or laser the damaged vein is sealed shut.
Phlebectomy is the surgical removal of any surface varicose veins that are left over after the VNUS Closure or Endo Laser treatment. Small incisions are made to pull the veins out with minimal to almost no scarring. This is done on an out patient basis. Patients are able to resume ordinary activities with in a day.
Sclerotherapy is one of the primary treatments of spider veins. Spider veins are usually blue or red in color. The blue veins are treated with a sclerosing agent which is injected into the small vessels of the skin. This irritates the cell wall causing it to collapse and disappear. The treatment of the red varicose veins is done by laser.
