Vascular Lab - Peripheral Arterial Evaluations
Pulse Volume Recordings with Segmental Pressure measurements (IMAGE TO THE LEFT - shows left femoral occlusion) are routinely used to evaluate the level and severity of arterial blockages, both at rest and with treadmill exercise.
The ultrasound imaging technology has the ability to create images of the arteries and extremity bypass grafts, and to measure the speed of blood through them.
Some indications that might warrant one of these tests are claudication (pain with walking), threatened limb loss (resting pain, non-healing ulcers, gangrene), thromboembolism (blood clots), thoracic outlet compression.
Digital arteries that present with emboli (blood clots) or Raynaud's (coldness & discoloration of the hands and feet) can also be evaluated.
